Income Tax issues in run up to Budget and General Election

As things heat up on the campaign trail in the run up to the General Election in May and Labour prepares for the Budget on March 25th, income tax – indeed tax in general – is a key talking point.

Many commentators are predicting an ongoing rise in tax to battle the UK’s massive deficit and even Alistair Darling, who must be hoping to deliver a vote-winning Budget speech, refuses to rule out future tax rises.

Nick Clegg, leader of the Liberal Democrats, meanwhile addressed a Conference yesterday, stating the Lib Dems would raise the income tax threshold to £10,000 – meaning around 3.6 million more people would pay no income tax at all.

This will be good news for low earners across the UK.

In the meantime, with time running out to claim any income tax rebate you may be due, it is suggested you submit your claim sooner rather than later.
