Spotted in the Birmingham Mail, fraudsters are apparently targetting Lichfield residents posing as representatives of the Valuation Office Agency, part of HM Revenue & Customs, and requesting credit card and bank details on the grounds they are due a council tax rebate.
The scam was highlighted by Lichfield District Council who stated: “We never contact residents by phone to offer council tax refunds. So, if you receive this type of call, do not provide your financial details, and report the call to the police straightaway.”
