The overpaying of taxes is a more common phenomenon than people realise and that is why the government has created provisions for people to claim back their over paid taxes. It gets a little complicated to correctly calculate your taxes, especially for people who have recently started a new job, have retired or for students who work only during the holidays.

The best option

In such cases it is best to hire a professional advisor to calculate your taxes. They are experienced in such work and are aware of the rules, regulations and laws which are made for the benefit of the people. A layman may be unaware of the provisions and hence end up spending a lot of time and effort on this. The professional will charge a nominal fee and get you your rightful money.

Do it yourself

If you feel you can do all the calculations and formalities yourself, then you can opt for the tax calculators and tax refund estimators which are available. These are user friendly, easy to use and give a comprehensive tax report. You need to make sure you are in possession of all the details so that there is no room for error.

After the calculation of your taxes, you will be able to judge if you have due to any reason over paid your taxes. You can then file a tax refund claim and go through the formalities required by the government.
