Lots of people identify full time study as a great way to embark upon an exciting and interesting career. There are lots of benefits to studying for a degree or taking your interest in a subject even further. This sort of approach helps you to specialise in a particular field and often leads to greater job opportunities in the future.

Of course, giving up work in order to study full time for a degree is quite a daunting thing to do. It represents a big step because you have to accept that you won’t be earning very much money when you are devoting so much time to academic pursuits. Any paid work you undertake is likely to amount to just a few hours a week.

Degree courses generally begin in September, however, and this means that whatever tax you have paid for the year so far is likely to be more than should have. Moving into full time study exempts you from paying tax. If you have paid too much in the first few months of the tax year then you can claim tax back to help you get settled on your course.
