Tax is something that people tend to shy from in conversation because it is complicated. It does not make for very interesting discussion and so tax is something that people talk about behind closed doors if at all. The subject of most conversations about tax take on a negative spin, with a lot of people believing they don’t get a lot for the money they pay out each month.

However, it is important that you focus your attention in the right areas when discussing tax. Rather than asking whether you get enough for the tax you pay, you should be asking yourself whether you are actually paying the right amount of tax in the first place!

What a lot of people don’t realise is that the HMRC is not infallible. Although a lot of work is done to make sure that people only experience the stoppages appropriate to their earnings and their life circumstances, things can slip through the net.

When this happens, some people end up paying more tax than they ought to be paying and they don’t actually notice. If you divert your attention to this matter then you may find you have tax to claim back.
