Gaps in administration can lead to problems with your tax code

It does not seem like much to ask for your tax payments to be correct. After all, taxation is a matter of working with certain information connected to your national insurance number in order to give you the right tax code. The right tax code will take into account all of your personal circumstances, of which only a few may actually make a difference to what you should be paying on your earnings each month.

This is all about effective administration, but unfortunately gaps do appear and these occasionally lead to problems. Sometimes certain matters related to your career, your lifestyle, your studies and so on are missed in the administrative process and they are not taken into account when your tax code is worked out.

The result may be that you are charged too much from month to month. Because you trust the HMRC to get it right, you may not actually question the matter. This is a mistake. You must question matters when you feel that something is not quite right. You can get a claims agency to help if you are uncertain about how to claim tax back.
