Tax is something that you have to keep an eye on all the time. It is not impossible for your tax situation to involve the odd error and you have to be on hand whenever this happens. Take an active approach to checking your pay slips and any documentation you receive that is related to your tax code.

You may be surprised at what you pick up on when you go over this documentation with a fine toothed comb. It is important that you always retain the paperwork that you receive so you can cross reference different documents in order to make sure you are paying the right amount of tax.

Sometimes you will only have a feeling that the tax you have paid recently or at some point in the past is not right. In this case, you may not have the relevant evidence to back up your feeling, but you should remember that the HMRC will have the very evidence you need.

If you contact a claims agency in order to claim tax back, they will speak to the HMRC outlining the fact that you are making a claim and urging them to investigate the evidence on their side.
