Tax and unfulfilling professional circumstances

One of the worst feelings in your career is when you are doing a job that you don’t feel is getting you anywhere and you are seeing so much tax come out of your earnings. Tax can feel burdensome when you are not earning very much and if you do not even like your job then your attitude towards tax is likely to be even more negative. Having said that, most people realise that tax is a necessary part of life.

If you do decide to resign from your position then you will obviously stop paying tax for the time being because you are not earning money. This period of time is probably going to be devoted to finding new work and paying tax on what you earn from a position that you do enjoy and that does seem to lead somewhere.

In the meantime, you may be able to get some of the previous tax you have paid back if it works out that you have paid a slightly more substantial proportion of your tax for the year so far already. This helps smooth things over for a while.
