When you somehow find yourself in credit with the Inland Revenue, there is no point getting angry or frustrated with the situation, but there is every reason to settle the matter, speak to a tax agency about claiming the overpayments back in full and making sure that all the proper details are in place to make sure you have the right tax code in the future and you don’t contribute more than is necessary again.

You can actually approach this problem with a smile on your face because finding yourself in credit with the Inland Revenue is just like finding out that you have a small savings account you knew nothing about. This savings account has been growing steadily over time and now it is worth a certain amount of money that you are in a position to spend as you like once you get it back.

The problems that led to the overpayments being charged represent water under the bridge once you have made that initial contact and determined that you are in the right in the dispute. All that is left is for you to await the arrival of your cheque and enjoy it once you have it in your hands.
