Not many people realise this, but a person who is required to wear a uniform to work may be entitled to claim a tax rebate.

Called a uniform or a work wear tax rebate, this kind of refund can be claimed by anyone who wears a uniform to work and is required to wash their own work clothes at home. This is because a person is entitled to be reimbursed in some way for the cost of washing their own work clothes.

There are certain conditions you need to meet in order to qualify for a uniform or work wear tax rebate. You can only claim tax back if:

• You aren’t provided with free laundry facilities by your employer (it doesn’t matter if you use them or not)
• You aren’t given laundry tokens or another form of reimbursement for washing your work clothes by your boss
• The washing of your work clothes isn’t handled by your employer

As long as you meet these conditions, you can put in a tax rebate claim right away. It can be complicated to work out how much you are owed and how to actually make a claim, however. If you’re having trouble, use a specialist tax rebate service to make the claim on your behalf.
