You should only contribute the proper amount in tax

Taxes in this country pay for quite a lot of services. Most of us make use of at least a few of these services on a daily basis, so people are generally quite happy to contribute their bit to the good of the wider public. However, people certainly don’t want to pay over the odds because this goes against what they think of as fair.

Your contribution to the country’s taxes is worked out so that it represents a fair share. The idea is to charge you a proportion of tax on your earnings that reflects an amount you are capable of parting with each month. The result is that everyone enjoys public services and everyone is able to get by on what they take home. Or at least that is how it is supposed to work.

The trouble is that mistakes crop up quite often. People are charged more tax than they are supposed to be charged and if they don’t realise straight away then they can struggle. To keep things perfectly fair, you must investigate your contributions actively and claim tax back when you are over-charged.
